Is your counseling approach directive or non-directive ?

Both.  Directive counseling is more structured, while non-directive counseling is more client-centered.

Clients who like talk therapy to 'vent' about their suffering can become too comfortable and might identify with hopelessness.  I incorporate directive counseling when clients seem to be reinforcing negative beliefs or when their thinking/analytical mind gets in the way of progress.

I incorporate non-directive counseling, which focuses on facilitating self-discovery when we are working at the subconscious level of thinking.  Hypnotherapy is one of the techniques in which there is very little 'directive counseling'.
